Writing a press release

As a self-published author, I have to do everything to make my book a success. From marketing to its effective promotion. Each day I learn new things like sending out press release to local newspaper outlets hoping they will feature the article in the paper. I didn’t know writing a press release wasn’t easy. I had to reached out to a friend to help me out. She couldn’t believe it at first when I talked to her about it. She said it should be easy on my part since I just published a book, and I wrote thousands of words. And yes, who would have thought that I couldn’t? I’m new to this and it’s a humbling experience that sometimes we have to swallow our pride that we just simply don’t know everything.

Sending a press release with brevity and catchy phrases is hard. I didn’t even know how to start my sentence. Or what the subject title would be. Thankfully a friend gave me her time to finish it. Then right when I got home, I started sending it out to a few local newspapers. I’ll start here in Nebraska. I’m hoping they will take a look at the press release I emailed them and they will feature it in their newspaper.

It’s true that book writing doesn’t end at writing the manuscript or having the real book in your hand. The reality of book writing started from cranking out chapter after chapter to successfully selling it. It takes a lot of work, but I can’t complain because I simply love what I do.

So yesterday morning I had another newspaper interview about my book and that made me so excited! I’m hoping ┬ámy book, Pesos to Pennies, will gain attention (even a little bit!) in that area.
