I was so happy how my book party turned out. Neighbors, relatives, friends, and my friends’ friends showed up. Last Saturday our day got busy preparing for my party. We served both American and Filipino food. I wanted to make sure we have food for everybody so I ordered chicken, sandwiches and cake from the store while one friend catered a few Filipino delicacies, and the rest was prepared by me. I asked my friend to cook the famous dinuguan which I talked a little bit in my book. My friends call it here “Filipino chocolate meat” or “pork blood stew.” I didn’t get a chance to eat it because obviously, a few of my guests liked it! We served another pork stew and other Filipino foods like rice, spring rolls, pandesal, and Filipino desserts.
Over one hundred people showed up. Some of them didn’t stay long but wanted to get a copy of my book. Needless to say, I sold over one hundred copies! I still have book order from friends who didn’t make to the event.
We started the event with my brief introduction then we started eating. I planned to read a few passages but that didn’t happen because people wanted to buy my book. My book was on sale for $10. Some friends bought two, five or ten copies! They said they’ll give it their family members or friends. One friend bought extra copy to give to her mom for Mother’s Day!
The party was supposedly to end at 5 p.m. but a few more friends showed up. Then it became like a private book launch party that was so much fun. We didn’t get out of the building until 7:30 p.m. after cleaning up and loading everything we brought there. I was overwhelmed with the support from my friends and relatives. They want to see me succeed in this new endeavor. I already have one book expo to go to this 20th at The Bookworm in Omaha and one speaking engagement in October!
I see my summer will get busy and I’ll keep you updated. I promise!
My heart is so full and I feel so happy that finally, last Sunday it became official that I’m an author now!
Have a great day, my dear readers!
